This is my first purchase of Exit signs and I based my selection of these Exit signs based upon the following: they are UL listed ( which means they must meet certain standards and this is an important factor when dealing with building inspectors). They are metal signs for durability and the removable arrows are a nice feature.
A simple test of exposing these signs to light for a minimal amount of time and seeing them glow in the dark leaves me with no doubt that these signs will function as specified. A couple of suggestions to the manufacturer and vendor to make it easier for other customers. It is specified that these signs require a minimum of 5 foot-candles of light in order to maintain their glow in the dark. An example of what lighting is required to generate 5 ft-candles of light would be very helpful to those not familiar nor have means to measure 5 ft-candles of light. i.e. A statement similar to the following "a single light bulb of x watts located approx. x distance from the sign". Also there is a cautionary note on the sign that should possibly be clarified for anyone purchasing these signs. According to the note on the sign which partially reads "minimum of 5 ft-candles external unfiltered fluorescent illumination must be present at all time". This note makes it sound like only "fluorescent" illumination is allowable which I do not think is the case.
